2009 Book Challenge

2009 Book Challenge

I have quite a few blogs on my google reader that have to do with writing, novels and reading... because, though my grades in school never showed it, I love books. I love reading. I love going to fictional places ;) Escape from reality. Works good for a writer... LOL

Anyhow...

Today when I saw logged into google reader, CeeCee (from BOOK SPLURGE) announced that she was joining a book challenge... (Which she got from J Kayes Book Blog.

I realized I am MORE then game. Noting that I have already read 5 books in 2009. Yes, you read that right... 5. It's only January 8th... and I have read 5. Which ones...

Skin by Ted Dekker
Through it All by an up and coming author Cindy Wilson
Off the Record by Elizabeth White
New Moon by Stephanie Meyer
Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer
And working on Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer (hoping to be finished by tomorrow)

So how does the 100 book challenge work. Well, I assume I need to read 100 books in 2009... It's only January 8th... I think I can do that... 6 down... 94 to go.

She says I might want to make a list... Gosh, a list. Hummmm Well I suppose I could start a list and then check them off as they are completed. :) But I certainly can't complete a list. Do these books have to be Adult level or would a few kid titles be okay?
I see you want to read some CS Lewis and the Tale of Despereaux...so I'm guessing kid titles are okay too.

If that's the case then count me in. I know I can do 100...I'm always reading and seeing as I need a good book to keep me on my eliptical trainer, I'll be killing two birds with one stone!

Blogger has a list thing you can add to your sidebar to keep track of all of this!

Wanted to stop in and welcome you to this challenge. If you haven't already, feel free to join us at the Yahoo Groups where others are participating in this challenge as well as others.

Also, the links to post your reviews are up in the right sidebar at J. Kaye’s Book Blog.

And as far as Renee's question, it can be all children's books. There is no age limits as long as it's a book. Also the format can be audio, eBooks, etc.

I think I will be joining you!

Here are some books that are on my list that I think are a must read for anyones list

Pilgrims Progress By: John Bunyan

The Shack By: Wm Paul Young

Me 'n Henry (out of print, but I have a copy, just go it!!!)
Me 'n Mama (also out of print and just got it!!!!) I'm so excited about these 2 books because it's about a man who grew up in the early 1900's in Southern AZ near my home town. I read Me 'n Henry or rather listened to my teacher read it when I was in 3rd grade and have wanted a copy ever since. These books are by: Walter Swan

I want to finish the Little House on the Prarie Collection, they are easy to read but I LOVE THEM!!!

I want to start on my list of the classics like

20,000 leagues under the sea
Guillevers travels
Black Beauty
Robin Hood
Treasure Island
Swiss Family Robinson

And then there are the Christain Classics

Foxes Book of Martyrs By: John Foxe
The Practice of the Presence of God by: Brother Lawrence

In His Steps By: Charles M. Sheldon

The Imitation of Christ By: Thoma a'Kempis

Humility By: Andrew Murray
With Christ in the School of Prayer By: Andrew Murray

The Christains Secret of a Happy Life By: Hannah Whitall Smith

The Greatest think in the World is Love By: Henry Drummond

Morning by Morning By: Charles H. Spurgeon

Madame Jeanne Guyon, Experiencing union with God through inner prayer & the way and results of union with God.

These are only a few but they are the ones off the top of my head. I know they aren't sci-fi but let me know if you read any of them and if you liked them.

Blessings

Christian fantasy? Sure I can give you some titles:

YA or Middle Grade (like the Narnia books--really crossovers)
The Door Within trilogy by Wayne Batson (Thomas Nelson)
The Isle of Fire and The Isle of Swords, Batson (Thomas Nelson)
Dragons in Our Midst by Bryan Davis (AMG) He has another series just starting, published by Zondervan. The first title is Beyond the Reflections Edge
The DragonKeeper Chronicles by Donita Paul (WaterBrook)
On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andre Peterson (WaterBrook)
The Wilderking trilogy by Jonathan Rogers (B&H Publishing)

Adult Christian Fantasy
The Guardian-King series by Karen Hancock (Bethany)
The King Raven trilogy by Stephen Lawhead (Thomas Nelson, I think)
The Trophy Chase Trilogy by George Bryan Polivka (Harvest House)
Auralia Thread series by Jeffrey Overstreet (WaterBrook). The first is Auralia's Colors and the one recently released is Cyndere's Midnight.

Since most of those are multiple book series, I think that might fill up your remaining slots. ;-)

(BTW, I found your post because I have a Google alert for the term Christian fantasy).
