Praise God from Whom ALL Blessings Flow...

As a kid (or maybe even as an adult) have you ever heard this song... otherwise known as the doxology?

Ahem... I will sing it in my best singing voice... which is really good, ya know.

Praise God, from whom ALL Blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly hosts;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Amen

Those of you who are Lutheran, I know you know this. My Great Grandma was Lutheran and this is what was sung around our Thanksgiving Table EVERY year when I was growing up. Even when Great Grandma wasn't there.

It's meaning is simple, to me.

Praise God for everything. Praise him above all else in the world. For the good, the bad and specially for the fact that I slept last night without the aid of anything! Just me, the pillow and a blanky (And the humidifier, the noise box, a snoring husband beside me... you get the pic).

So, seeing as though it looks like my addiction to benadryl was short lived... it's over. And I am happy. So indeed, Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

And if one of you mentions a certain coffee addition... "It's off with your head!"

Going to sip some...

I think there are more than just Lutherans that sing the Doxology...although I don't remember it in the Presbyterian church...but that's been over 20 years ago, so I don't remember much from them at all...except that they were really into the 23rd Psalm.

We sing that song at mass (Catholic.) I love it. Such a simple song, but such a lovely melody.

Hey!
Did my plan work? Sounds like maybe it did!

Happy Coffee drinking!

Oh...and we sing that song too for grace on special occassions. It started for me at my grandparent's house...and they're Baptists. It's just a little different though...

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him , all creatures here below
These mercies bless and grant that we
May Strengthen for thy service be.
Amen

I love this tradition! It almost makes me cry now when we have all my family together and we sing it. Particularly since my Grandma passed away a couple of years ago now. It brings back so many great memories!

Doxology is in our songbooks - we sing it often. Very simple, very pure and easy to remember as an off the top of your head song of praise!
